Below are portraits that I chose to hang in the hallway. What talent and hard work! I am so proud of how hard these students worked to get these finished by the end of the semester!

For our last unit, we focused on drawing. We have been revisiting some drawing techniques like gridding and value/shading. Our final project is a gridded portrait and each student got to chose who they were going to draw. I am so proud at the hard work they have been putting into this project- it is definitely not an easy one! Check out the progress...
Can't wait to see how they look after this weekend! (Students- you should have been working on them.... they are due by Tuesday!!) Peter Max poster winners! I chose 15 of the top "Save the Earth" Poster and 15 "North Carolina" Posters to be laminated and hung up in the school! Everyone worked really hard and I am so happy with how colorful they are! They definitely brighten our school halls. **Click on each picture to enlarge it** **Please let me know if you don't see yours above- I had a hard time finding some of them. So, let me know where you hung it and I will take a picture of it!**
For this project, we looked at different artists that are inspired by food. One of the main artists we talked about was Wayne Thiebaud, who was a painter who focused mostly on candy and desserts. He was our main inspiration for this project. Below are some pictures that we looked at: Hungry yet?? (I was hungry a lot during this project...and I don't think I was the only one...
Students made these projects out of oil pastel and were encouraged to either crop, repeat, and/or enlarge their food. Bigger is better! Below are the projects that were chosen for the hallway: Students have just recently finished their landscape paintings! They had to paint a landscape and incorporate texture by using different painting techniques. The paintings are on display in the front office, library, and the display case at the end of the art hall :) They look beautiful and once again I am one proud art teacher!

Every pinwheel represents 4 different match-ups of an Element and a Principle. As you can see in the picture above, we got to get messy and splatter paint the back :) Right now we are getting ready to draw our 'expressive self portraits' for our portfolio covers! Below are some examples of what an expressive portrait can look like. They are expressive through color and use of line and movement. Artists use certain principles and elements creatively in order to show the personality of the person within the artwork. Vincent Van Gogh is an artist that painted many expressive portraits and incorporated certain colors to represent his emotion and feelings within his artwork. His paint strokes also evoke a certain feeling through the movement and the separate brushstrokes that the impressionists incorporated. Students,
Don't forget to bring your 'selfie' picture tomorrow for our upcoming project!! We will meet in the computer lab tomorrow to re-size it and get ready for our 'Expressive Portrait' project!! Remember: it needs to be an UP CLOSE selfie and it needs to be CLEAR :) Welcome new and former art students!! These past beginning weeks of school we have been working hard to review the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. They are so important in creating and talking about art! So far in the semester we have decorated our sketchbook covers, sketchbook name page, and have been making pinwheels that will soon be done! They will be shown on the grassy circle at the car pool loop :) We then decorated our name pages! Students had to decorate them using their own chosen theme and had to show the Principle of Design, repetition. |
