For one of our sculpture projects, we focused on using recycled items! Recycling, re-using and reducing is something we all need to be more aware of and practice everyday! Throughout the years at WMS, I have collected items in a box I call, 'Junk to make stuff out of' (see below). This box has tons of random stuff that can be made into lots of different stuff! You just have to use your imagination and some hard work. The first day of our project, we created posters that had to have visual and/or written explanations of the 'why, how and where' we reduce, reuse and recycle. Why is it so important?? Students created some beautiful posters that ended up being hung in the hallway. After the posters, students were then able to pick whether or not they wanted to work independently or as a group and then they got started! They were able to grab a recycled grocery bag and go to my 'Recycle Shop' where EVERYTHING IS FREE!! Best kind of shopping :) Then the ideas started flowing and 'trash' items were turned into beautiful and wonderful things! See below for pictures of the process... ...and now for the finished products!!! They are SO AMAZING!!!!! Start bringing in found and recycled materials for our sculptures!
I can't wait to see what everyone is going to make! Below are the drawings that included all of the 7 Elements of Art: Line, Shape, Form, Texture, Value, Space, and Color.
Some were chosen to be laminated and hung up in the front office! Make sure to check them out if you are up there! For our next project, we will be using all of the 7 principles in the design of our "Expressive Portraits". This will go on our Portfolio covers and will express each of us individually.
"Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else". STUDENTS - for Wednesday you MUST have a "selfie" of yourself for our project. We will be printing them in the media center on Wednesday. Make sure it is a CLEAR, UP CLOSE PICTURE! See below for my example of the project: We are reviewing the Elements of Art and Principles right now, so that we can remember what they are and how to use them in art.
For our "review projects" on the Elements and Principles, we are creating 1 little 5"x7" drawing on the Elements. After reveiewing the Principles, we incorporate all of them in our upcoming Portfolio Project, "Expressive Portrait". They are looking awesome, and I can't wait to share them when they are finished! Bring in magazines for TOMORROW, Wednesday for our sketchbook cover collage! This semester we will be creating "Vision Boards" - so bring in magazines that fit your future goals and/or inspirations.
Bring all of your supplies by TOMORROW, Wednesday!! I am SO excited I get to have you for another semester! I hope you are too :)
