This art club we watched a video that I thought was so powerful. I saw this video online and I really thought the message about working together was great for us to reflect on. Now, before you watch it, just know that this video was created for the Bernie Sanders campaign and I had absolutely no intentions of sending any message about Bernie as a presidential candidate. It was just for the visual message that I wanted the students to see.
After watching the video, we discussed about what the pictures of the people could symbolize or mean. We talked about what it means to work together, unity, equality, and how we really are all the same in the end no matter our race, gender, age, or size. I took pictures of every art club member in today's meeting and printed them out. We then tore them in half and pieced our pictures together. I thought it was so neat to see how they came together and fit pretty well! One picture was even of two members both named Brooke! :) We then put them up along with some personal or found quotes and/or drawings.
Our display is up in the school hallway outside the art room and I hope students and staff will stop to take a look at it and understand the message - "We all should known that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color." - Maya Angelou
