Students were to create an optical illusion design and then incorporate value into it to enhance the illusion.
We just wrapped up our value unit where students learned how to create different lights and darks with their pencils. Value is one of our 7 elements of art and is what you add to make a 2-dimensional drawing look 3-dimensional. We focused on optical illusions for our final project for our value unit. An optical illusion is a drawing or design that tricks your eye into seeing something that isn't really there. It also can be a design that makes it look as if it is moving, when it really isn't.

We just finished our tiles! They went up in the display case and looked great! Students painted the tiles with acrylic paint in the style of Impressionism, just like the artist, Vincent Van Gogh. They worked hard through the whole process and it definitely shows :) I am one proud art teacher! Before we started the tiles we did some smaller work focused on Van Gogh paintings. These below are done with oil pastels.
