Abstract Expressionism is an art style that does not depict reality, but instead uses shapes, colors and lines to show emotion.
We are inspired by the Russian painter and abstract inventor, Wassily Kandinsky. He found that color could express emotion and feelings and used music to inspire him.
He painted two main styles of abstract expressionist paintings - "Compositions", which used mostly geometric shapes and straight lines. He also then created "Improvisations", which was painted by free-flowing lines and shapes. This style of art is very relaxing and 'free', which is a great stress reliever!
We will be learning how to mix colors by experimentation and painting in shapes!
