We explore many different materials and art tools and techniques such as painting, printmaking, mixed media, clay, and drawing. Students learn the basic Elements of Art and Principles of Design and how to apply them to create their own original artwork.
This semester for our clay project we created creatures out of pinch pots! Students learned many different clay hand building techniques that they could use for their project. After building them out of clay and they were fired, they got to paint them using acrylic paint. We then sprayed them with an acrylic gloss so that they would be shiny :) I always love how these turn out- they are all so unique :) (scroll through to see all pictures)

Paul Klee is a well known Swiss artist who had a modern, abstract style. Within his abstract paintings, he used mostly geometric shapes a lot like that of cubist artist, Picasso. Above is one of Paul Klee's most famous painting of one of his three cats. This painting was our inspiration for our small abstract animal.
Students got to chose what animal(s) they wanted to paint and were encouraged to incorporate fun colors instead of realistic ones. Here are some of the finished pieces! (click on the images below to make them larger) |
