DT is a mixed media artist who created artwork from smashed cans that he would find. He called them "Tete de canette", which when translated means "head bobbin".
Here is are example's of DT's Head Cans:
So, instead of drinking myself silly with a bunch of soda, students got to bring in a can of soda or juice. We talked about how much aluminum cans are recycled each day and students learned about DT's art style and how his work got started. After drinking the soda or juice, students got to relieve a bit of energy and/or frustration by smashing their own can by stomping on it. I think they all enjoyed that ;) To go along with the 're-use, reduce, recycle' theme, we used cut up cardboard from boxes for our head can background. Students chose a color for their background and then decorated it using acrylic paint and displaying a symmetrical design. After gluing the can on to the cardboard background, students painted a funny and unique face onto the can. They could use the bottom or top of the can in anyway they wanted to create the face. To add to the 3- dimensional quality of the artwork, puffy paint was added at the end on top of the face and in the background. |
