Right now we are getting ready to draw our 'expressive self portraits' for our portfolio covers! Below are some examples of what an expressive portrait can look like. They are expressive through color and use of line and movement. Artists use certain principles and elements creatively in order to show the personality of the person within the artwork. Vincent Van Gogh is an artist that painted many expressive portraits and incorporated certain colors to represent his emotion and feelings within his artwork. His paint strokes also evoke a certain feeling through the movement and the separate brushstrokes that the impressionists incorporated.

Composition 1
This is the 'intermediate' class in our Visual Arts program. Students will engage in deep study of the elements and principles of art. Two and three- dimensional techniques will be taught using a variety of materials. Students will explore various cultures, art history, and learn to think and write critically about master work as well as their own.
