This is the 'intermediate' class in our Visual Arts program. Students will engage in deep study of the elements and principles of art. Two and three- dimensional techniques will be taught using a variety of materials. Almost every semester, Drawing class has been given the opportunity to be involved in bringing their personal art permanently into the school community. We have done murals, permanent framed art pieces, and now wooden murals that will be permanently hung in our school! Here are some past murals and permanent art pieces... I just love how bright and colorful they are- they liven up the school! For this semester, 5th and 7th period Drawing classes did something different. 5th period is our lunch period and is a time when there is heavy traffic in the halls, so we decided to paint on wood that would be then hung up in the school. All students in 5th period got the chance to choose a partner(s) to work with or to work individually. Students were shown different themes or examples of murals to give them some ideas for what to do on their piece of wood. Some chose to base their mural off of a quote, the Wakefield Wolves, or something that they felt strongly about. After choosing their subject for their mural, they then went out into the school and found a good spot for their mural. First off, we had to paint the wood with Gesso, which is a primer for acrylic paint (see pics below). Then, student sketched out their idea on paper which was then transfered onto the wood, which would then get them ready to start painting!! I saw a lot of great collaboration and working as a group to figure out colors and composition. They did a fantastic job and I can't wait to see them all hung up in the school! :) Some murals in progress and/or ready to be hung! Here are some of the finished products of the wooden murals by 5th period Drawing Class! Check back soon for the rest of the murals hung up!
For 7th period, we chose to do a mural at the front of the school to bring in some color!! After discussing themes as a class, we chose to focus on our mascot, the Wolf and represent each team visually. Students got to choose a partner or partners to work with and some chose to work individually. It was such a fun project to work on as a group and they worked so hard on them!! I am so proud of them for it was not an easy task! :) The teams we represented here at Wakefield are: - Patriotic - Dire - Red - Royal - Dream - Timber - Pack - Alpha - Silver - Wise See below progress shots and pictures of being close to done! We still have some things to finish up on it, so check back later for our final mural!! |
